Youth Job Preparation and Pregnancy Prevention
Our office collaborates with the Department of Workforce Services to provide resources and support for youth employment as well as education to prevent teenage pregnancy throughout Grand County. With parental permission, our social skills based sex education combines information from Removing the Risk and Postponing Sexual Involvement (ETR Associates) and Step by Step (CHEF Associates). Both programs are cited as effective and are approved by the Utah State Office of Education. Our strategy provides education regarding high-risk behavior, abstinence, and contraception and provides opportunities to discuss pertinent teen issues and practice assertiveness, refusal and negotiation skills. Upon completion of this education, youth are eligible for any of our employment programs that give youth the opportunity to accept responsibility, succeed at being productive, and make a contribution to their community. Possible employment programs include: a supervised service learning project where youth can work alongside their peers and an employment program focusing on high risk teens during summer months.
Who is eligible: All Grand County residents between the ages of 12 and 21 are eligible.
Fees: All Pregnancy Prevention and Youth Job Preparation services are free to the public.
How to access these services: Grand School District receives some prevention services through their usual classroom activities; some services rely upon written parental permission for youth enrollment. Parents or youth may contact our office at 435-259-6131, 198 E Center, Moab, to receive information about the program.
