Substance Use Prevention Services

Our partnership with the Grand County School District has been effective in reaching young people and our office maintains important collaborations with other businesses and agencies in providing substance use and violence prevention services throughout Grand County. Our services are "evidence-based". They have been shown, in this and other communities, to be significantly effective at preventing the use of substances and violence in coping with life's stressors. Our strategy is to build protective factors against substance-use and violent behavior and to reduce those risk factors that have been shown to contribute to those harmful practices. We provide education about the negative consequences of substance-use and violent behavior and the heart of our program is education in pro-social alternatives for coping and enjoying life. Some components identify "high risk youth" and, with written parental permission, focus on life skills training and mentorship activities to interrupt patterns of potentially harmful behavior.

Who is eligible: All Grand County residents are eligible.

Fees: The Substance Use/Violence Prevention services are free to the public.

How to access these services: Although most students in the Grand School District receive identified prevention services through their usual classroom activities, some services rely upon written parental permission for youth enrollment. Parents of students will receive information about available services with each new school year. Parents may contact our office at 435-259-6131, 198 E Center, Moab, to receive information about the program in their student's school and other programs in the community.
